Austin's Bday
Austin turns 5 today & it seems like we just celebrated his 4th bday yesterday. He’s grown up so much this past year & is ready to start kindergarten in a few weeks.
He chose Shipley’s Donuts for his birthday breakfast & tried to tackle a lot in one sitting. He didn’t quite finish it all but did a good bit of damage.
Post-its
One of the highlights of my week is exchanging notes with Jackson. While packing his lunch before school, I always write him a quick note on post-its to include in his lunch box. Though it’s not a surprise to him anymore as it was at the beginning of the school year, he still enjoys opening up his lunch to something to read. Not long after I began this trend, he began doing the same for me. He writes his own little notes for me and puts them in MY lunch box for me to find later. It always makes me smile. Here are a few that I keep on my fridge…
Getting Old & John Mayer
Another year passes and you get older… you know the drill.
I had another birthday last week and I’m not excited about it. While I know my best days are still ahead of me, I realize that as each day passes, my body ages – and I find THAT very hard to deal with. I can’t complain a whole lot, though. Time has been somewhat good to me. But I still don’t like the fact that little by little, the hair on my head is disappearing, gray is sneaking in, and my body wants to change its shape. I’m beginning to have to watch what I eat – I’ve NEVER had to do that before. I’m lucky that I enjoy a good workout.
While I can always find something to complain about, I also have a lot to be thankful for. I have two beautiful boys in whom I find great joy, and in less than 3 months I get to marry the woman I love. LOTS to look forward to! I hope 2010 goes by a little slower. I don’t want another birthday anytime soon!
My birthday came during Spring Break this year, so I took the boys to Louisiana for a few days. While there, Blanche and I saw John Mayer in concert in New Orleans (Thanks to Blanche and her mom for the Christmas gift!). His music was flawless. He and his band are very talented, and you could close your eyes thinking you were listening to the CD. Great chemistry between his musicians on stage. I enjoy watching the details of all that goes on behind what you hear. And of course, live music is where it’s at!
Jackson's Pre-K Graduation
My oldest graduated from Preschool yesterday. This means:
Happy Mother's Day
Austin: Happy Mother's Day Dad.
Me: Thanks buddy. Did you make something nice for your mom?
Austin: Yes, we made flowers & cards at school. But I didn't make anything for you.
Me: Oh, that's ok. There's something called Father's Day next month.
Austin: Well, my teacher said we can only do girl stuff, and we made flowers. And boys don't like pretty things.
Me: Well I appreciate that. So what do you think you'll make me for Father's Day this year?
Austin: snakes and rocks. stuff like that.
Me: Awesome. can't wait.
Happy Mother's Day!
Weekend in Louisiana
Had a great time in Louisiana this past weekend. On Saturday we participated in the March of Dimes, March for Babies in Lafayette with Blanche and her extended family. We spent the morning at the community event, and then in the afternoon had a family cook-off with lots of great dishes.
On Sunday we made our way to Mandeville to see my cousin Angela who is in visiting from Australia. I was able to meet for the first time her 8 month old daughter Giselle, who is on her first visit to the states. After a great time with family and on the way out of town I was able to catch Dave and his fam for a few minutes at their home.
This week started off very quickly and is heading towards this next weekend the same way. Upon my return from a weekend without the boys and missing them terribly, I've been able to have them with me all week. Austin started off the week with strep throat but has recovered well. There's nothing like receiving big hugs after not seeing them for a few days. Jackson woke up earlier than me the first morning here and started in on his drawing and cutting. I woke up to the below picture on my dresser that he made for me while sleeping. They are all individual cut-out shapes that he pieced together to spell it out (I [heart] U).
