Stitches in the head!

Imagine this with me…

Austin, my very active 4 year old is playing in his classroom at school.  He puts a bucket on his head and begins to run around.  He bumps, trips and somehow hits his head on a bookshelf.

This is my first experience with stitches as a father.  And now that I think about it I’m shocked that it’s taken this long.  Somehow I’ve managed to survive almost 32 years without ever personally needing any, but not my Austin.

By the time the blood stops dripping down his face and all over his clothes the tears also stop.  And before he is even sitting in front of the doctor he is back to his normal fearless, inquisitive self.  He handled himself very well today, including bending a needle while trying to sit up with it in inserted into his head.  But by the time the visit was over he was stitched up and very proud of himself.

I’m sure Austin will have additional interesting medical experiences.

Fall Pictures

A friend from Hole In the Roof took a few pics of me and the boys this past weekend (Thanks, G!).  Enjoy…

One tooth down…

Jackson is barely into his first full week of Kindergarten and he’s already losing teeth.  Two of his “big teeth” are coming in strong right behind his row of “little teeth”.  So I guess his mouth is making way for them.  He lost a front tooth on his bottom row, but the picture doesn’t show the gap too well because of the big tooth coming right on in to fill the gap.

He handled his tooth falling out like a champ, with no big deal made… except for the dollar he got from the tooth fairy.

It's that time of year again

Not only am I excited about college football & NFL to start their seasons, but my boys are starting their fall season of sports.  Austin had his first soccer practice yesterday with his new team.  And Jackson will have his first flag football meeting this coming week.  They are both excited, as am I, to see them out on the field having fun.

Austin did great at his first practice.  He can move his short little legs really fast and can run faster than most of the boys on his team.  He’s a natural with his coordination and had no problem running the drills that the coaches introduced to the boys for the first time.  I had a lot of fun watching.

Here’s to the next 8 weeks of 4 days of practices per week.  Plus 2 games per weekend.

Jackson in Oz

Last night we attended open house/meet the teacher night at Jackson's new school.  He is starting Kindergarten and is now in the public school system.  He seems to be excited about it all and I know he will do well in class at this level.

His teacher's name is Mrs. Oz, and as we walked into her room, Jackson realized that everything in the entire room is themed after "The Wizard of Oz".  It was pretty cool.  I have never seen so many Dorothys, Tin Men and Scarecrows all in one room before.

I can't believe both of my boys are officially in school.

On another note, I finished my first full day with my students on Monday.  My feet hurt and I'm exhausted.  Other than, I'll have a better sense on how the year will go after this first full week of having them.  Too many schedule changes happening this week.
